Jornada gratuita de formación para veterinarios extranjeros
La British Veterinary Association (BVA), Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) y el Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) impartirán una jornada gratuita de orientación y formación (CPD) para veterinarios extranjeros que trabajen o consideren trabajar en el Reino Unido el día 10 de Septiembre del 2014.
Esa jornada gratuita será seguida por una jornada magistral en técnicas de comunicación ofrecida por el VDS el día 11 de Septiembre, la cual se impartirá en el popular formato de representación interactiva con actores profeionales. Esta segunda jornada costará £ 175.
La combinación de los dos días proveerá a los veterinarios extranjeros con la información y apoyo necesarios para ejercer como veterinarios en el Reino Unido. Se ofrece la oportunidad de atender solo a un día u otro.
El curso ‘Introduction to the UK veterinary profession – an essential CPD course for overseas vets’ está enfocado a veterinarios extranjeros durante sus dos primeros años trabajando en el Reino Unido o aquellos que estén pensando en comenzar a trabajar aunque en las ediciones anteriores de este curso han atenido veterinarios con cuatro e incluso cinco años de experiencia en este país que se dieron cuenta de que necesitaban orientación si querían prosperar.
Las tres organizaciones desean reducir el riesgo de que estos veterinarios sean objeto de quejas y mejorar su experiencia en el Reino Unido y su capacidad de comunicación. El curso también les ayudará a comprender sus obligaciones legales como veterinarios en el Reino Unido, las cuales pueden diferir de forma significativa con aquellas de su propio país.
La primera jornada ‘Key information and skills needed to practise as a vet in the UK’ mostrará la organización de la profesión veterinaria en el Reino Unido, incluirá información a cerca de empleos, derechos laborales y el apoyo disponible en caso de que algo vaya mal. Habrá charlas ofrecidas por representantes de los tres organismos organizadores y también del Veterinary Benevolent Fund. Luis Sainz-Pardo de VetAbroad® ofrecerá la charla ‘Tips from an overseas vet who has survived.’
La segunda jornada ‘A master class in communication skills’ cubrirá los retos que se presentan en la consulta y como gestionarlos.

Free CPD for overseas graduates
A free day of continuing professional development (CPD) for overseas veterinary graduates working in the UK, or considering it, will be provided by the British Veterinary Association (BVA), the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) on 10 September 2014.
The free day will be followed on 11 September by a master class in communications skills, provided by the VDS, in a popular role-play format with professional actors, which will cost £175.
The two days combined will provide overseas vets with the necessary information and support needed to practise as a veterinary surgeon in the UK. Vets can also attend the two days separately.
The ‘Introduction to the UK veterinary profession – an essential CPD course for overseas vets’ is aimed at overseas vets in their first two years in the UK and those considering working here.
All three organisations wish to reduce the risk that such veterinary surgeons may become the subject of a complaint, and to improve their UK experience and advance their communication skills. The course also aims to help them understand their legal duties as a veterinary surgeon in the UK which can vary significantly from their own country.
The first day – ‘Key information and skills needed to practise as a vet in the UK’ – maps out how the UK veterinary profession is organised, and includes information about jobs, employment rights and the support available for when things go wrong. Talks will be given by representatives from each of the three organising bodies, together with the Veterinary Benevolent Fund. In addition, Luis Sainz-Pardo from Vet Abroad will provide ‘tips from an overseas vet who has survived.’
The second day, ‘A master class in communication skills’ goes through challenges in the consulting room and how to handle them.
The course runs on 10-11 September 2014 at the RCVS, Belgravia House, 62-64 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 2AF.
